1. Say what? Add some asparagus to your meals. In a special issue on health, Newsweek reported asparagus, which is rich in folic acid and antioxidants, if eaten regularly can reduce a person’s risk of hearing loss by 20 percent. Dark chocolate also provides a healthy dose of zinc and has been reported to protect ears against age-related hearing loss. And since hearing isn’t the only important sense—eating almonds, rich in vitamin E, offsets macular degeneration, Newsweek reported.

2. Tired at work and need to get in a workout? Take 15 minutes out of the day for a walk. Newsweek reported a “15-minute walk has more instant energy than a 45-minute run because it wakes up your system without tiring it out. Even a walk around the room will make you feel refreshed and recharged.” So if tired after work and feeling as though there is no extra energy for that workout, take a short walk to warm up muscles and get an energy boost to fuel the exercise plan.

3. Plan to attend Jaimie’s Dragonfly Run at 9 a.m. Sept. 22 in Baxter at 14250 Conservation Drive. The second annual event has a 5K fun run/walk.
