Low Vision Specialists of MD and VA help those with Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy, Stargardt’s Disease, and Retinitis Pigmentosa by providing a comprehensive low vision exam and evaluation. We prescribe and design custom telescope and microscope glasses.
In the first step of the advanced low vision exam Dr. Azman will talk to each patient to find out how their reduced vision is affecting their lifestyle and determined their visual goals. With this “wish list” of reading, driving, watching TV, etc, Dr. Azman will understand the patients’ goals and proceed to make them a reality.
The second part of the exam is extensive vision testing and pure refraction. Dr. Azman determine the patient’s baseline prescription and then work from there to meet their goals of better vision. Often bringing the patient to 20/20 using prescription telescope and microscope glasses.
As Low Vision devices are “task specific”, each pair of glasses are designed to complete the task desired. From time to time it is possible to design a pair of glasses for multiple tasks. In the last part of the exam Dr. Azman will discuss and go over all the options. Each patient will use actual low vision telescope, microscope and prismatic glasses on the tasks desired, confirming that they work BEFORE they are ordered. This process will be done again when the patient picks up the low vision glasses.
As a member of The International Academy of Low Vision Specialists (IALVS) we bring new hope and sight to those who have been told “nothing more can be done.” With over 38 years of experience, Dr. Thomas Azman has a 98% success rate.
